Safety Tips for Pets
As you prepare for the holidays this year, take a few minutes to consider the safety and well being of your pets – both dogs and cats.
1. Avoid tinsel – it’s very easy to ingest, and can cause severe internal problems.
2. Keep poisonous, seasonal plants like poinsettias out of nibbling reach.
3. Keep chocolate out of reach as well.
4. Pay attention to how your pet behaves around ornaments and presents. If they insist on playing with these items, you may need to keep your pet out of that room. Avoid placing food gifts under the tree. Some pet owners have found success only placing ornaments on the tree above the reach of pets.
5. (Bonus Tip) Make sure your pets don’t feel left out – be sure to include your pets on gift opening day. They always appreciate a special gift or two, set aside just for them!

Ornaments are such a treasured part of the Christmas tradition. They are often passed from generation to generation. Each ornament can have special memories and significant meaning to each member of the family. Because dogs are an important part of our families, why not create a special memento of your pets to be remembered for years to come. It’s just one more way that our four legged companions can bring joy to our lives.

Christmas Tree and Ornament History
We thought you might enjoy this short history of Christmas trees and ornaments.
Fir trees were first used to celebrate the birth of Christ around 300 AD. Their triangular shape was thought to represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit of the Trinity.
In Germany, around 600 AD, the tradition of decorating a tree first began. Trees were typically decorated with edible items, such as fruits, nuts, and cookies, or candles and flowers. Glass blown ornaments were first created in Lauscha, Germany around the year 1860. The first American made glass ornaments were created in 1870 in New York by William DeMuth. In the 1880s, W. F. Woolworth visited Lauscha and discovered the German glass ornaments for himself. He began importing them to the United States, and went on to build a great fortune. The industry continues to grow. Today, Christmas decoration sales are second only to gift sales every holiday season.
